Joe Smith, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult), grew up with American Sign Language as his first language. As a sign language interpreter for 15 years, he frequently assisted at real estate closings, where he saw the critical need for Deaf clients to have interpreter access earlier in the home-buying process. Recognizing the communication barriers they faced, Joe became determined to bridge the gap.

Now a licensed REALTOR® and Managing Partner with Next Step Realty, Joe leverages his background to provide high-level service to both deaf and hearing clients. His focus is clear communication and ensuring all clients have the information they need to make informed decisions.

A Severna Park native, Joe loves sharing the hidden gems of Anne Arundel County. Though licensed in Maryland, he also founded a Facebook group to connect Deaf homebuyers with sign-fluent agents across the U.S. His advice to buyers and sellers: “Don’t get overwhelmed. I’m here to guide you every step of the way.”

Joe enlisted my help with his social media to take his business to the next level. His volume was picking up, and with that, he felt a strong social media presence was necessary. We met networking through the real estate industry and the rest is history!
